Default Dug into my motor tonight.......good news!!!

Well, I tore the intake manifold off after sucking up a LOT of sand this past Sunday. When I backflushed the system on the water with a funnel and bucket, I spilled some water on the intake and saw bubbles coming up thru the water between the intake and the port head. So I replaced both intake gaskets tonight, re-set the timing (thanks Crazyhorse!!) and ran it a few minutes on the hose at 1000 rpm. Small fuel leak that took a few minutes fix and I couldn't find one of the freeze plug petcocks that I took out Sunday (it was under the oil pan in the SAND!). Overall, I don't think I hurt anything in the short time I ran a little hot. Never saw over 200 on the oil temp and never got over 190 on the water before I shut her down. Never smelled anything hot (burned rubber or oil). So, tomorrow I'll run it on the lake and set the total advance.

Wish me luck!!!

Mike

No problem Mike. Glad I could help, even if it was from 30 miles away.

Hey Foul,
Long time no talk to I read the posts about the strainer or should I say the debate
If it was me I'd still install one it should act as a buffer between the drive and the motor you may still get sand in the motor but not as fast (diluted) hopefully it would just go through the engine without packing up the lines. Nice pictures!
I found two strainers for my boat on OSO from another member for 200.00 and they are Gills look and work great. Every time I go to PIB I need to clean them out (looks like a huge ceaser salad).

Good to hear foul and if your temps never got over that then I would think you are totally fine. Do not forget to retorque your intake after you heat it up and cool it down I did that once and it messed up my day.

So, was the gasket blown at the riser? Did it burn through the gasket or was there a metal block off plate? And yes, don't forget to retorque!
