The boat is a 1985 formula 242 with twin 260 5.7 engine. My top speed so far is 60 on gps at 4600 rpm drives out tabs up throttle all the way water moderate chop. I have 23p cleavers that are dinged and scuffed, no major damage but well used for sure. I'm new to this style boat but it seems to take a bit to get on plane. Do you guys think I could gain anything with a modern style prop. Should I just quit spending money on the boat and just go run it?

Cleavers are old school, put them on the shelf and never look at them again. My 242's really liked the Mirage Plus props, seems that the SR-1 boats (twins) seem to do well with the non-plus. Look on craigslist, I'm sure you can find a very nice set for under $300.00.

There's a set labbed Mirage + 25p on eBay for $850 for the pair.

I had the exact same boat/year/power and chased top speed for 3 years. Best I ever saw was 58.6 on GPS. Search for old threads I posted in Formula forum. I even scraped posts on here for configs and claimed top speeds - posted in a thread.
