Default Hydrolic steering new or used?

I have been looking for a reasonable priced used twin bravo set up for my 292. They all seem to be close to new kit prices. When buying a new kit I assume that almost everything needed is included so why such little difference in price? Choose the used system and need a hose or a cylinder rebuilt and you are now up to a new system price... what is a good price for a dual bravo hydrolic steering system add on? Full?

I bought a used mayfair external kit here in the swap shop. I bought the inside full hydraulic to the helm kit to make a complete install from CP performance.
I had to have the Rams rebuilt ( knew this going in )

I saved about 1000 bucks.

I could have pieced the inside stuff together and saved a couple hundred more (maybe) but, the kit is nice and complete.

The cylinders are the expensive part, you just can't find them anywhere else.

My .02, most people with quality used hydraulic steering setups want close to what a new setup costs. It's by far one of the most important upgrades that you can put on your boat so why not go new? You will know that all the hoses are the correct length, the ends are installed properly and nothing will need rebuilding or leak. In the big end 1,000$ is a good amount of money but having a pile of used up parts is just as expensive.

I have purchased Afew sets new and knowing exactly what I was getting is what I needed is priceless. You can then care for your investment properly. (Cleaning polishing, anti corrosive spray ect). Also you can route the hoses exactly how you want and cut them to the length you need. If you need an extended helm so that the wheel is where you want it you can address it at the purchase and get It as a package and save money then spending 700+ on an extended helm later when you realize you need it. Lastly when purchasing you can decide which setup you want (Z rack inside the drive rams, or outside the drive ram setup, or long stroke rams or short stroke rams and the appropriate helm volume)

Bill at diamond has very competitive prices, call him and talk to him and if you're looking for new he will be a big help. I've had great success with zieger stuff as well as imco.

Sorry for the long post. Good luck with your decision

As far as the hose supplied in the "complete kit" from hardin/mayfair.

I bought the inside kit and shelved it for several months. Upon starting the install, I realized that the supplied hydraulic high pressure hose was over 10 feet short and I have a 24' boat. Too late to complain so now I'll be buying approximately 20 more feet of bydraulic hose. Other than the short hose, the kit appears to be complete and of high quality.
