Christian Gott. You asked for a rally event that teams of four boats could split the distance and compete.
You have it. It will run at the same time as the race over the same course.
Boat 1 goes from the start to Port Jefferson
Boat 2 goes around Montauk to Shinnecock
Boat 3 goes to Verrazano Bridge
Boat 4 finishes at Port Washington
Max 55 foot Minimum 18 feet
Any combination of boats or designs, cats, vees, hydros, tri hulls etc.
Let us know when you have the teams put together.
Good idea, thanks!

I think I can find a couple Sutphens for 1 go-round....what about a couple "branded" teams...Cig v Fountain v Joe in his Sonic ;-)...Team Skater might play Kickasaures Rex..but...at least MTI..would be in another class. ..yep, I think I might have just called out all Bayliner owners...Dave P, from NJPPC..any advice before I keep babbling on?
Yep. I like the idea...

I see the results...
1 Skater flips, team DNQ...no one's hurt, but speed ...well, you know the rest.... .
Team Apache can only field 3 boats, but goes on to kick a$$....
Outerlimits is having so much fun they wind up in Malta.because their boats can just do that stuff...
The Cigarette team runs hardest and fastest, but the 42 Tiger hits a log in LIS and can't finish unless they call the guys from Shinnecock to pass the baton and compete that leg....
Team Superboat runs the long leg from Montauk and humiliates the rest of the pack (it's their home water...duh!)..
as for us Sutphens...we win, of course...
BTW, no potato cannons are allowed to propel the baton to the next boat...

Since most of the Rally guys will be regular high performance boaters......let's keep it free from the "Pros" in other words no Sutphen vs Bayliner or Cigartte vs Bayliner
Let's keep the Bayliner guys open only for the big race, non stop.

Cool news about the Magnums! Total HORBA kind of stuff. I'm still kicking the Sutphen group thing around.
1 question: Helmets.
Any access to loaners? Most of us aren't racers so we don't have 'em. We do have ones for snowmobiling, motocross etc. What are the technical specs?
OK..2 questions: Relay stops.
There is some sizeable difference in the lengths of the legs, and some of the "stops" don't have access to 93 octane.
So, I did some research, let me know what you think:
Proposed "Legs" for the LI Rally:
1. Port Wash to Mattituck is 65+/- miles and 93 octane is available at Mattituck Inlet Marine
2. Mattituck to Shinnecock is 78+/- miles and 93 octane is available at Jackson's Marina
3. Shinnecock to Jones Beach is 62+/- miles and 93 octane is available at Bay Park in Oceanside and West Sayville Basin
4. Jones Beach to Port Washington is 54 +/- miles and 93 octane is available at Tamiqua in Brooklyn and then again in Northport or Cos Cob
That long stretch on the South Shore makes it hard to be totally even, but given the other places for "pit stops" the more balanced legs seem reasonable.
Besides, even the 271 mile guys might like to know there's fuel available every 65 miles or so...
Just some thoughts. I'll get on that Sutphen thing.
Christian
