Default How do you remove top hinge pin ssm #6 ?

can someone explain how the top pin comes out?
All the diagrams show a cap on top with a nut underneath it. On mine the top cap seems to be threaded in the center, roughly it looks like 5/16 fine thread. I'm guessing the pin unthreads out the bottom?
i only have about 3 inches of clearance between underside of deck and top of drive,

thanks!

Think the plastic cap has a alen screw lift it out. Should be a nut under it take it off and the pin should pull down may need to use a puller. What are you changing?
I don't think it is threaded in the aluminum.

Cap comes off, then the nut, then I use a snap on ball joint press with a variety of adapters to push it out. Might be easier to pull the assembly off the boat, esp if it's a drive line setup

Got it, Thanks!
3 inches was a generous guess, it's only 1.5 inches (nortech 3600) clearance.

I broke the gimbal ring, i hit something at texoma HARD! lol

The steering ram pins thread into the gimbal so don't hit on them. If you have to cut a socket and weld it to a flat bar might work for you to remove the nut. Make sure its 12point.

Is there any maintenance or lubrication needed for the top and bottom and gimbal ring pins? Or anything else on the transom assembly?

No oil or grease. Self lube.

I cut the handle off a box end wrench then welded the handle on top of the end. Worked great. The trim motor pins were the biggest challange, they were seized in. Also i broke the bonding cable connected to the pin on the left side so im waiting on parts, no boating this week.. I plan on using waterproof grease when it goes back together. Also putting new seals in steering rams.
Any suggestions on reassembly would be much appreciated

Thanks again for the tips!

Come on Jamie. You know when the ball joint press doesn't work a really good blade in a sawzall (sp.) is the way to go.
