I have read that the stock 525's had Manley rods. What ARP replacement rod bolt would you use and what part number would it be ??

i don,t know what rod bolt or rod is used in the 525efi engine but i would bet it as an arp bolt-8740 material.if you use anything other then what was origionally used i recommend rebuilding the big end of the rods.the part number depends on the length of the bolt.

Yes Mercury got the rods from Manley... Is there a reason you want to replace the bolts? If you want to upgrade from the ARP 8740's part # 42361-4 you can get the ARP 2000's #42249-4, but if you are looking to upgrade something I would spend that money on better vale train components, the rod bolts are not a weak link in that motor.

Thanks for the info. I am rebuilding the motor and up grading as much as I can. Crower stainless steel rockers, Isky 8005-A valves with 10* retainers and locks, heavier push rods, up grading all bolts with the better ARP stuff and whatever else I can do. Hopefully I will get several years of worry free service from them.

i agree with bawanna,8740 bolts are more than enough bolt for that application.

So the under head length is the 1.600 ? Not the other. So you think the ARP 2000 would be un-necessary expense and overkill ??
