What is the reason most boat engines run 140-160 water temp instead of 180-200 water temp? Talking about open cooling system. It seems most people that have upped the HP choose to run cooler thermostat's. Can anyone tell me why so Cool ,,, or ,,, not so hot !!!!!

Edit in: What BT said above.
Also
To keep engine temps cooler. Better on hoses.
Better for engine intake air. Not many people run cold air intake systems. LOL.

Cooler Intake air.

Oh yeh, spark plug wires last longer too !
How many 20yr hoses and wires are out there still working fine ? Ton around here.
LOL.
I've had many motors - cars and boats - that make more power as you get closer to 120F cooling temp. All SBC's and BBC's.
My experience.
Your miles may differ.

to help meet emission standards modern cars run at 200+.the epa did not require boat engines to meet the same standards,UNTIL lately.the new engines under 500 hp will have cat converters and will run hot.maybe bup will chime in on this,he should be well versed on this.
