Default Smartcraft alarm...fault 94 pitot chk hi

So I'm now suddenly getting a new alarm on my sc5000 screen, it is saying "port pitot chk hi"... (Or something to that effect). Mechanic said don't worry about it, I don't have a pitot sensor... That's fine however why would it suddenly go off and only for the port engine? Anybody have any ideas where to start looking? Where is the sensor and what does it do? I've been searching around but I'm getting mixed answers.
Thanks,
Aaron

I don't think that would be causing a beep nor putting you in Guardian. Is it beeping or reducing power?

I know you have Mercury or mercruiser so what in the world do have here engine wise, hp wise, year and engine serial #. Without knowing it is a dart board game. Just saying no offense but can not fix without knowing any of this.

Do you have DTS ?

Thanks,

Your welcome and its John. I will be funny about your reply above, I had to ask you in your other post Ambient Temp ckt what you had as well for a correct reply.. .Hopefully you remember. Anyways had to bust on you.

Smartcraft & DTS display of port pitot ckt hi is short for CDS merc diagnostic scan fault 94 - pitot pressure circuit high this is the pitot pressure sensor that is used for boat speed. The circuit is shorted and or a wiring problem and or the sensor itself problem.

The is a fault that carries NO warning horn and NO guardian reduction in power / speed. 100% available power with the 94 fault listing.

DTS engines is whole another ballgame so I know better to ask if you had DTS and what app so that a proper reply can be brought forth.

Thanks John I certainly appreciate your help, you are obviously far more knowledgeable about this stuff than me... But I am learning, the engines are DTS, any ideas where to start troubleshooting this one or where I can get a schematic to start chasing wires? If I ever run into you beers are on me...
Thanks,
Aaron

your welcome - I Can not tell you how much I have learned staying at a Holiday Inn Express weekly.

I would nt expect you to know a lot of this unless you went to the factory schools or at the very least read all the OEM service manuals per your app about 3 times over. With that said, it looks like you are the only one working on your app so at the very least, I would buy all the OEM factory service manuals for your app. You need the following manuals - the engine 496 and I would buy version 1 and I think it was 3, both IMO are good to have if you are keeping your app for years to come, then you will need the PCM diagnostic manual and then you will need the DTS manual per your engine serial #. Then for the Bravo drive app per your drive serial #.

Last but not least, tools and special tools along with the most important - A diagnostic scan tool. Diacom, or Merc CDS or MEDS . The Diacom is the cheapest price and a very good scan tool to have.

I do have some of these OEM service manuals and for sale around half the price of retail plus without the sales tax. Roughly your RETAIL service manual cost for all would be around 750 bucks. Mine would be around half that and of course less if all manuals where not needed. Some I have are still brand new. I would have to check to see what I have left.

A little words of wisdom in the industry & No offense to anyone but the words from very good marine repair shops is always. I quote "we really love the do it yourselfer especially ones that work on their own stuff without any factory know how and without factory manuals because they always jack more things up plus are huge new parts change buyers and still have things jacked up". "just more money for us down the road when they finally give up especially realizing they just lost 3 months of boating"

Buy the OEM service manuals if you are going to work on these current apps, Best advice I can give anyone and I can careless if you buy them from me but great if you do..

BUP - I have a few of those manuals and I read through them when things come up... Hell my last boat had a 7.4 Volvo that I didn't know **** about when I bought it and by the time I sold it I was practically a certified Volvo tech (at least in my mind). Point is I'm not scared to try to fix something and if I screw it up so be it...I guess I pay the mechanic to do it.

that said...

I got the boat back in the water yesterday and the code is "Port Pitot Chk LO". I was looking around back behind the engine and I see a loose plug labeled "pitot tube". Port engine is the same. Why would I get that alarm if it not hooked up? Why do I not get it on the other side? None of the manuals I have go into detail on these codes.

Not having your app with my eyes on it - how is your speedo set up - is it water thru the drive then that hose carries that water for its readings ? or is your app GPS or is your app paddle wheel speed sensor ? Need to know this before anything else, Do you have the DTS manual for your app ?

Gps based speedo, I don't have the dts manual... The pickup tubes on both out drive are disconnected, and have been since I bought the boat... The fault will pop up with just the key on (not the engine running). Its weird because I had not gotten this error before I changed the "ambient air temp sensor". Nothing else has changed...
