Default Has anybody changed to CMI dry tail pipes ?

I have the 2001 500 efi with the stock CMI headers with wet tail pipes, has any body changed out to the dry tail pipes, where the water dosent mix with the exhaust, what was involved ?price?did you have to cut transom for the pipes?was there a performance gain?i know it makes it louder.my old boat had the real header style stellings on it,it was a little loud but didnt have and probs,
anybody out there changed them out yet ?

For what it's worth I put the GIL drys on my boat with a new motor, so I don't know if you get a gain in speed but it sounds frickin awsome. They did have to open up the transom holes a little to fit the pipes out the back. I do know you cant run the inner flappers with them because they run to hot and burns them. It also burns the outter ones as well so there could be a potential problem with reversion.

Here's my dry pipes, not CMI's though, and my appropriate name for the boat. Now I have to keep the dry's. As Puder would say, It is STUPID loud. Just the way I like it.

Motto; If it's Too Loud, your Too Old. No disrespect Fred.

u ran fuly dry pipes (water and exhuast exit totally seperatly) and itw as STUPID loud. In fact it was too loud and gave me a a horrible headache. While runngin they were fine loud but fine actually they sound awesome at speed, it was in no wake zones and around the docks that sucks. If you want to piss off every other boat (including high perf boaters with wet systems) go for the fully dry. As a matter of fact it was so loud it gave me a horrible headache and really wasn;t very much fun. BUT when they are running at WOT they are awesome sounding there is no denying that!!!

One thing kinda nice though, every time you pull into a marina, you get an applause when you shut off the engines.

I personally love the sound and if it pi$$es off other people that's their problem.

Most around here don't seem to mind, and even the cabin cruiser folk seem to get a kick out of it.

I can't change it now, I'd have to change the name.

I always liked your comment about STUPID loud puder and I almost named the boat that.

I'm running dry CMI's on my boat (pair of 540's 600hp) you should pick up some hp, as for sound put it this way my neighbor can hear me when I return to my marina He lives about 3mi away.

Default 500 efi / dry cmi's

I am currently running a dry exhaust setup Cmis dump to the Star/port stern. the boat runs great and does not have that annoying blow back mist when reversing.

Sound...well... Sounds like a supercat. very violent

I have not run WOT on my new dry stacks yet, but starting it up only got responses that "it is not as loud as I expected" from those around. I was originally against the idea of having such a loud boat, but now am excited to hear it running. I really like how the new exhaust looks. It was made and installed by Stellings as the last project before Jack died. My engine was the last one before Ken at HTM died too. I sure hope it is just a coincidence.
