Depends. Will you be driving it like an offshore boat, or like a 1976 Cadillac sedan?

Offshore boat operation= 425HP

1976 Caddy/river boating = 550HP

They are pretty safe behind stuff up to 600HP if you dont drive like a fool.

If they are rebuilt by a competent shop and you upgrade the topcap you can push a little more thru them. I noticed they ran a little longer if I was running heavier oils like 110wt or 140wt. Yes, you loose 1 MPH on top speed but they live 10% or 20% longer. Everybody has a Bravo recipe that works for their boat. Mine was the Max Machine Works top cap with 7/16 studs and a mixture of 110 and 140 wt oil. Then they lived pretty good with maybe 1MPH speed loss.
