Ok guys, upgraded the engine, running 572 800hpish.. Problem is getting oil temp down. Temp creeps up to 250+ and was wondering what oil coolers and seawater pumps you guys are using. I am still with the stock 502 crap for right now on the hopes it would be sufficient. Not so. Any info is welcomed. This is fuel injection BTW.

Can't speak for an oil cooler but I sure would suggest that if you are consistently running this warm that you use a synthetic oil.

where are you reading temps? before or after cooler? what cooler you have now?

I have gone to full synthetic just for this reason. I have not shot temps as some guys say the readings can be so far off and misleading. My concern is the overall temp and the oil breakdown while running hard. Builder would like to see the temps below 250 like 230 while running hard. I do notice some temp fluctuations in the cold water during this and will jump up to 200 for second and then back down. So I assume this is just the water pulling excess heat off.

Right now I am running a stock cooler and some say they are junk and not even close to the efficiency of an after market like Mr Cool or CP performance models. I just want to get an idea if a new cooler would be best or maybe the water stock water pump is the problem before I start forking out some money to try and fix this issue.

Did you pull the coolers and check to see if any tubes are clogged?
Just pulled mine found a few pebbles in one that effectively clogged flow.Pulled the other and had clay or sand blocking 4 or 5 tubes.My oil would go 230 240 per gauge.Mercury coolers look better made than aftermarket and finish is excellent. 848192T is the replacement I bought since my kid "helped" me and crushed the original cooler body while tightening it.

Yeah unfortunately I have tried a lot of things and now down to some money decisions which way to go here. Was hoping someone would chime in with big horse power and a similar issue and fix.

Where is the best place to mount the oil temp sender. Mine are mounted in the hp-6 filter head that is on the front of the engine. Even with aftermarket 3x21" thermostatic control coolers my oil temp starts getting up to the 250 mark on hard runs causing me to back off the throttle so I don't overheat the oil.

If your filter head is before the cooler you are fine. If it's after your coolers are to small or there is a water flow problem.
