Default Why no in-tank fuel pumps?

I can see the OEM packaging issues and to a lesser degree running a high pressure fuel line across the bilge, but am I missing something obvious here? It just seems that it would eliminate any vapor lock issues (I know you boys up north don't see that a lot). It would also be one heck of a lot easier to service or change; changing most merc efi fuel pumps should automatically give you ASE/MMA certification. I'm just surprised a few more people haven't tinkered with this.(slow at work day)

I have wondered the same think. And if I was to use an electric pump it would go in the tank. They last a heck of a lot longer in the tank...

Issue is that it would put it out of the engine manufacturer's control.

I think 99.9999999999999999999999% of us would rather in tank.

True, but why isn't it done- in the aftermarket sense that is? I see everything you can think of re-rigged, modified, etc on this forum that takes a lot more talent than hooking up an in tank fuel system. It just seems to be an obvious upgrade, that's why I keep wondering if I'm missing something.

On my mastercraft, the pump is in the tank. If you run low on fuel it will smoke the pump. Done that once!

That's not because it's in the tank.

there is many marine engines that use in the tank full pump cells with no external full pumps nor cool fuel systems. The new Indmar Ford raptor marine engine is one of them also Mastercraft for many years has done this as well.
