Fuel mileage is terrible. I don't own one, but have spent many miles in several of them. I've seen as bad as 6 loaded, and as good as 14, empty. Avg towing was around 7.5-8. Avg empty around 10-12. The vehicles I've been in were 01 1500HD, 06 1500HD, 04 2500HD and 08 2500. A buddy of mine has a Vortec Max, (6.0) in s halfton, and its excellent, but it has a different transmission. Some guys will tell you they get 16mpg, but I don't think they're very good at math, or have a special truck. .

yeah a little what i'm afraid of... not sure I want the diesel as a daily driver with the added costs... any insight on the 6.2 in the 1500's any better? other than the extra free space in my garage, I'm regretting selling my 07 3500/drw/6.6 bought it when I got the new 30ol, and in 7 years only put on about 3000 miles pulling to the lake and back(it's only purpose was pull the boat nothing else...) I want to go to just one vehicle and have the best of all the worlds....

A Blackbear tune helped mine,,,,, I loved mine,,,, didnt expect great gas mileage and I didnt get it,,,, ALLLLL highway with resetting the dash after the cruise was set at 65 MPH it could pull 15 MPG. expect 9-12 depending how you drive,,,,,and get the 3:73 gears,,,, actually get better MPG
The 10k ish difference between that and the oil burner buys alot of gas though.

My buddy and I bought new trucks the same year......he got a 6.0 gasser 2500 crew, I got the same truck even the color but mine was diesel. He never reset the trip MPG meter.....lifetime of 10 years, truck got 10.1 in mixed driving. My diesel got about 13-14 in the 8 years I had it. I traded mine after 8 years, he sold his a few months ago to a guy from Michigan.

MPG is really not the 6.0's strong suit.
Our experience with the 6.0 is 10-12 empty, less than that towing depending on what you're towing and driving habits…or even without towing if you're an aggressive driver. I've heard guys claim those magic 14/15/16 mpg numbers but as someone else stated I think their either doing their math wrong or really like their truck. Or maybe they work for the govt.
As a daily driver vs. diesel (and all that goes along with the grease burner) it really depends on what your daily drive is.
Back roads, short trips, city stop-n-go driving, general runaround stuff the diesel doesn't really have a huge advantage.
I get 14-16 as a daily driver with my D-Max. I live 20 miles from work, all back roads, little traffic but several stop signs which kill mileage.
However; the difference in towing is night & day and if your daily drive includes highway time the D-Max (and, truthfully, I think all the new diesels no matter which flavor you like) runs high teens to low 20's…again, depending on driving habits. 8 - 10 mpg difference can add up in a hurry if you drive a lot of highway miles.
The price difference is significant at startup, but diesels do hold their value better.Used diesels - even with 100k+ miles - still bring ridiculous amounts of money on the used market.
But that's got to be balanced against higher fuel & maintenance costs.
The 6.2 in the 1500's runs really good but it's a different tranny, lighter truck, and GM builds so few of them finding one is a real trick.. Also,I'd have to double check but I believe the 6.2 is a premium only motor. I know it was, but don't' know if it still is. Depending on what you're towing, a lighter tow platform is not necessarily a good thing.

2007 new body style, 6.0 extended cab with the 6-speed, around 6900 lbs from what I recall and I get around 12-13 last I checked.
2011 work truck, 6.0 extended cab with a Reading bed, 8500 lbs gets about the same mileage. Its gutless and detuned tho.
