I am really just curious what does a five engine boat do that a four engine boat doesnt . . . . I mean if its just the "ghee whiz" factor i can understand that . But how does performance differ?

Friggin beautiful azz boat

Its like an amp Dave... Sometimes your in a 4 engine boat and your running wide open and you need just a little bit more.. Like an amp that only goes to 10, what do you do when your playing at 10 and you need just a little more?? you get an amp that goes to 11 !!!!!!!

The extra wide beam looks like it added a lot more space

Lets see....on paper...

power - 4x557=2228hp, 5x400=2000hp advantage 557 by 228hp
weight - 4x1100(approx weight each)= 4400lbs., 5x668(from mercs site dry)= 3340lbs. advantage 400
then you have 4 lower units in the water vs. 5 = drag advantage 557.
but having 5 props in the water vs. 4 could give could give the 400 boat efficiency advantage?

Heres a different angle...

4 x $69Kish retail = $276K vs. 5x$34K(average retail) = $170K major advantage 400! Not that anyone that can afford these boats cares about the cost.

My guess....who cares there both bada$$ and ill never be able to afford one.

***Disclaimer - I make no claim to the complete accuracy of the specs as I have not purchased, weighed, dyno or even seen either motor ; ) Ok Ive seen a 400. I searched them on google!

Marina I used to frequent had a beautiful 39 Midnight with quad 275's......boat was always there for repair. The two outside motors ate gearcases like crazy when the boat was under hard acceleration and turning one unit would basically go dry! That was 4 engines driving the mechanics crazy, 5 would really send them over the edge!

I'd stick with triples.......going uber fast in a CC isn't really that fun anyway!
