We will be heading to St Louis to pick up a boat on the 23rd and 24th of this month. We are also meeting some friends there as well. Can anybody recommend a decent place to stay and maybe a nice bar and restaurant? Not looking to break the bank just looking for something to do while we are there.

If you are into outside grilling cookouts, Ferguson is the area you want. They are into Bon-Fires and roasting things on a regular basis.
On a more serious note: What area are you picking up the boat? St Louis "area" is a large city with many suburbs and styles of food and cultures.
Just know, EAST St Louis IS NOT an area you will want to stay.

You will likely be coming in on I270 which will bring you in through St Charles, The Old Downtown Historic district near the Casino's is a neat place. To me, places off I64 are also nicer areas, especially to the West of the Main city.
I am sure a number of people that live in St Louis will have better more direct suggestions, but St Louis is a large city, so finding out the area you want to be in is really a very important catalyst to finding you the places to stay and visit.

Stay in St. Charles MO then. You'll be close to the MO river and downtown St. Charles has some nice restaurants/bars. I recommend Trailhead Brewery. That's a good area also. For a general rule of thumb, 270 makes a circle around St. Louis and if you aren't familiar with the city you should stay on the outside of the circle it does around the city.
