I got tired of the V-guide on my aluminum I-beam trailer-

$32- 4 galvanized bunk bolsters
$5- Pressure treated 2x4x10
$20- 12"x12ft bunk carpeting
$36- 4 galvanized 3 1/16 x 4 5/8" u-bolts
$9- 1/2 galvanized bolts, nuts, washers
$0- Stainless staples (leftover from another project)
$1.59- reward for completing project

Cut 2x4 to required length, cover in carpet, staple, repeat.


Assemble bolsters, attach to carpeted 2x4s






Install centering bunks forward of vertical bunks. The closer together, the better. These will be up against the hull, but they wil not be weight bearing.

Centering bunks / guide bunks installed. The last step is removing the V-guide, if desired.



After fit check, test launch and retrieval are complete, return home and have a cold drink, homey.

They should be weight bearing.
You don't want a bunch of weight on that tiny point of the Bow Stop.

Run them up to the boat.
Then raise the boat off the trailer about 1".
(Lift tongue jack way up, then lower keel of boat back down onto a stand of cinder blocks/wood or a log.)

Then raise your new V-bunks up another 1/2".

Finish by lowering boat back onto trailer and checking Bow Stop fitment.

I will do that, then. I was told by the local trailer place that they should only have light pressure to the hull, the vertical bunks carry the load. The bow stop was adjusted to the eye with the boat loaded. The V-guide never touched the hull while loaded, it only kept the keel off the frame while loading/unloading.


I get another Steel Reserve for doing that, right?!

Oh, and get rid of the PVC thing. It's just one more liability since it probably the lowest point of your trailer (hanging down, and in reference to catching something on the road/scraping/etc.)
