I noticed the other day that the port side rear mount bolt was loose, I tried to tighten it but it just spins. Does the nut get pulled inside the mount, I don't feel it on the bottom?

Ah, thus the reason I cannot feel it... Any idea why it will not tighten? maybe there is no nut...

Its an alum. nut they do strip out but you can feel it from the front with your finger if its there.

Nope, Don't feel anything but the end of the bolt. I'll see if I can feel the nut on the other side.

As TA said, its in a slot on the transom plate, so its higher up than the end. Part #12 is the nut in this link. As you can see, it slips into a slot on the plate and that holds it in place when you pull the bolt out. Its a fine thread bolt, so it takes a while to tighten, but as mentioned, its aluminum, so they can strip out. But you should be able to follow the bolt up to the plate, and then up to the slot where the nut goes, and you should be able to feel it there.

I can feel the slot and the nut in there. I tried tightening again but the bolt is just spinning so it must be stripped. So if it won't tighten it probably will not loosen...

thoughts?

can you get a screwdriver under the head of the bolt a little? If you can try prying the bolt up as you loosen it.
