Default Closed cooling for 800+hp

Getting tired of having aluminum heads welded on the deck every time I take them off, yes even anodized ones, does nothing for the deck surface. Anyone have a part number for a heat exchanger that will adequately cool a 600" n/a 800-850?

Can't help with that...but...when Canfield was still in business their Hard Anodizing was done after maching...somehow...so yeh, the decks would be protected too. Hadn't heard of any headgasket issues from leaving them this way. You would have to make sure, though, that the spark plug threads wheren't anodized and the accessory bolt holes wheren't either....if they where, you'd have no ground path for your plugs.

Put a zinc anode in there somehow.

Jamie, I've got 775 hp a side and have closed cooling. Motors NEVER get hotter than 160. I will get the make for you.

Brodix has a new coating they warranty for 7 years. Salt doesn't affect the coating. Neither does the heat from exhaust.... Closed cooling is still the way to go. I talked to Orca Marine awhile back and they would make pretty much whatever I wanted. Never pulled the trigger so I couldn't tell you if its good or bad.

For the life of me, I can't wrap my head around using sea (or lake for that matter) water to cool an engine. With the amount of money the average performance boater has invested in an engine, no way would I run even fresh lake water through my motors. Heat exchangers do not add that much weight or complexity to a marine engine. I like having the most expensive single components of my boat protected by antifreeze. It even makes winterizing simple, for those of us that have winters to deal with.
