What defines classic offshore?

It's kinda in the name. Races used to be long distance ocean racing. Only seen by helicopter and tv. Now the races are close to land within eye shot. Better for promotion and fans. I like them both

----Think historic styling (1965 on up). No step hull nonsense. No crazy paint nonsense. Older boats (example 27 Sport Magnum) stand on their own merits completely. Another example would be early Cig Mistress or 36 wide body, or flat deck. Lots and lots of others in this group, but you may be getting the idea. Those statements are NOT yours alone ... I'd hazard a cutoff of about 1990 or so as the end of the true classic era. Personally, I think it ended around 1980.
