I've spent most of my boating time here on the Patuxent river (off the chesapeake) and spend weekends out on the water. We generally beach at Myrtle point, anchor out in cuckold creek, and head back to Solomuns for ice & beer. Thinking about driving down to the Potomac next weekend, does anyone know if there are good places to beach or anchor in shallow water around the mouth of the Potomac?

Check out Sharkstooth island, its about a 30 minute run north in the Potomac from the bay. I am pretty sure you can use it once without buying a membership. Also, if you want to stop and hang with us at Cornfield point, we are there most weekends, unfortunately not Labor Day though. But if you are down that way any other weekend and see a solid white café racer with black scoops on the hatch, please stop and say hi, my friend owns a cottage there with a nice tiki bar set up and plenty of shade. You may also want to post this in the Mid Atlantic section.

We hang out at Smith Point, at the mouth of the Little Wicomico River. Deep water right up to the beach. Great spot to swim and relax.
