Default How do you test/diagnose fuel injectors ?

Friend of mine cooked number 7 piston in his Volvo 502. He knows it's a lean condition but doesn't know if the injector is cutting out or if the wiring is faulty. Is there a way to test the injectors on the bench to try and solve the problem? He can hear/feel the difference in performance when it cuts out. It is very intermittent and works as it should more often than not. Also what size injectors came in these from the factory?

Send them to me, I have a semi custom machine with 6 years of flow testing and cleaning marine fuel injectors for the gasoline side.

Please do not go on youtube and listen to people who have no idea how a fuel injector even works. Just saying as I am giving you solid advice here.

there is a lot more to it than shooting a cleaning thru them as many on youtube think its good to go.

BUP has you covered on the injectors, my comment is on the No 7 position. The 502 intake has a known failure for cylinder No 7. The hole is smaller then the other cylinders and needs to be opened up.

Noid lites is for - power only at the connector = no lite no power at the connector so then no injector working, it will never tell you how well an injector is flowing or not or even a leaking injector.

You can still have all the power in the world to the injector but that does not mean it is even flowing the proper amount of fuel or its pulse width is correct. Just saying

No OEM marine ever offered a 502 in 2005 from their production lines. Most 454 and 502 big blocks for the marine end was gone in 2001 as they were replaced with the 496 - 375 hp and the 425 hp and that basically was across aboard.

Volvo did offer the 454 up till 2002.5 because they bought a ton to keep that package going when the marine version 496 was in place. Volvo really started to push the 496 in 2002 as Merc pushed it in 2001. Just saying.

was this a older app 502 (2001 and back ) repower or reman thrown into a 2005 boat ? Or is this a Volvo 496 - 8.1 L ?
