anyone know what a 1986 21ft scarab1 260hp 350cid alpha 1 drive gear ratio would be ,,, friend bought this boat minus the drive. he's buying another but doesn't know what ratio to get
Get a 1.47 aka 1.5. That is what came on most boats that size with a v-8. If he can find a 1.32 that would work as well but would be spinning a smaller prop.

Don't get the lower ratio - get the 1.47. Most of these had a 19" stainless 3 blade. Some people put 21" cleavers on them back in the day, but would lug them down some trying to plane.
1.5:1 ratio. I ran a 23 Laser 2 which was awesome compared to the 21 Cleaver. She ran 4800-5k at 60+. Can't verify that engine was stock however. The 23 Laser would be equiv to a mirage 21 probably.
