I used half inch starboard. Glueing is an issue it is a complicated process but screwing holds well. Pvc is not strong enough.

try coosa board its a little pricy but it takes glass well, its rot resistant and will hold staples, very strong and light, use wood tools to work with it and they sell at TPI plastics right past the city line on rt 40...Im using a sheet for my engine hatch and I used a lot of it for my stringers and bulk heads

Maybe someone can tell me if this is starboard?
Contractors are using this on the seat bases of my refit. They've already used it on the bow seats, now proceeding with rest of the seats. It's very strong, waterproof and seems easy to work with. The contractors I'm using are a professional boat building company, pretty big here in Thailand.

At the risk of sounding a little ignorant, I highly recommend it!

Thanks for posting this up. I too am looking to rebuild my front bolsters. The upholstrey is in good shape but sadly, the wood is starting to crumble so I'm going to try to see if I can remove the material and just replace the wood and then reuse the material. I really don't want to use wood again and this gives me some great ideas. Thanks again

When I redid my bolsters some of the wood was bad I just used pressure treated, remember it lasted the first 25 years so you should be ok. The seat part of the old mc cloud bolsters used some mat fiberglass to stiffen it up an add some protection. I don't know how bad yours are, good luck
