Default Slow Boat Curse?

I felt compelled to spew this out after reading pro27's proud thread on his Progression 27 and the discussion about speeds. I didn't want to hijack his thread...

I'm on my third boat in 6 years - none of which ever reached the speeds other owners of the same setups did.

1985 24' Formula 242LS, twin SBCs, Alpha drives, Mirage Plus 19P
Top Speed seen: 58.6
Others reported: 70-75

1990 35' Cigarette Cafe Racer, twin 600HP, Bravo Ones 1.36GR, Mirage Plus 23P (labbed) or Hydromtive Quad IV 22P
Top Speed seen: 69.8 @ 4950 RPM
Others reported: 75-84

1990 23' Warlock World Class, single 600HP, Bravo One 1.5GR, Mirage Plus 23P (labbed) or Hydromtive Quad IV 22P
Top Speed seen: 77.3 @ 5900 RPM
Others reported: 85-90. (75 w/ stock 350HP)

I RECENTLY SPOKE TO A GUY THAT HAS A 26 NOVA WITH TWIN BIG BLOCKS STOCK 454 FUEL INJECTION STOCK BRAVO ONES AND 23 MIRAGE 3 BLADES AND HE SAID IT RAN 80-TO 85 MPH ALL DAY LONG. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF 23 PITCH PROPS YOU MUST BE SPINNING STOCK MOTORS TO 8000 RPM'S TO GET THAT SPEED LOL

All you have to do is embellish with the prerequisite 5-10 mph to your true speeds and you are right where you need to be.

Problem solved.

Seems most reported best speeds happen with only fumes in the tank, 40 knot tailwind, at 45*F, at sea level, in saltwater, in perfect seas, on a GPS phone app, with no passengers other than a twelve pack.

If he boated in Salt it clearly would have disintegrated once getting up to any real speed with all the corrosion, rust, and issues that come with salt.
