Looking at doing a run from Marco Island to Key West sometime in late April. Any advice or tips? Is it generally calm that time of year, is it best to run straight across or stay closer to the cost?

Made the trip last year - from KW to Marco after the poker run in a 39 Nor-Tech.
We made a B-Line to Marco and the only issue was our Garmin flat lined on us so we had to resort to an iPad for a compass. You're in the middle of the ocean with no land bearing... I've heard the cost route is desolate and no chance for gas. You may want to check into that if fuel is a concern. Other than that it was a great run.
