2 people die, 5 survive after pontoon boat capsizes

MANASQUAN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say two people have died and five survived after a pontoon boat capsized off New Jersey's coast.

New Jersey State Police say it happened about 1:30 p.m. Friday in Manasquan Inlet.

Authorities say all seven people have been recovered. Four were taken to Ocean Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and one person refused medical treatment.

State Police identified those killed as 66-year-old Alex Osadchy and 74-year-old Grigory Klokishner, both of Philadelphia.

Police say strong currents may have been in a factor in the accident, but the cause still is being investigated.

The Coast Guard says its members and some civilians responded to the rescue.

Chief Warrant Officer Chris Sparkman says the accident is a reminder to check the weather beforehand and always wear a life jacket while boating.

I remember seeing a pontoon on multiple occasions carrying people to the mouth of the inlet, but I never saw it go out to the ocean
