Default Powerquest 280 silencer

Need some input. I am currently shopping for a boat. I have narrowed it down to 3 one being a Powerquest 280 Silencer. The one I located is very clean and fits what I am looking for. My concern is this manufacturer closed there doors in 2007. What are the thoughts on buying a boat from a manufacturer that has closed there doors? Also parts availability, resale, etc.

Other boats I am looking for Sunsation 288 or Active Thunder Savage 28 or 29.

Any input?

I wouldn't worry about buying from a shut down manufacturer. PQ made good boats, Mercury is still in business for Bravo parts, and most parts like lights, switches, and gauges are from outside manufacturers anyway. Interior and canvas will be custom made items when replacement time comes, but that's pretty common with many non-current models. The Sunsation and the PQ are both nice selections, but if there's an AT available at about the same price point, I think I'd have to go that route. And that's from a former Power Play/Powerquest owner.

Oh, I must add the obligatory advice-
Get a survey and mechanical inspection (compression and leakdown, drive inspection), do a sea trial, don't give more of a deposit than you're willing to lose, and buy based on condition and upkeep over model year.

I'm certainly no expert but buying from a manufacturer that is closed wouldn't bother me if the product was right. Ask why they are closed, if it's just a sign of the times, it doesn't matter.

A 2007 boat has no warranty now (there are a couple of exceptions). The engine and drive have no warranty but they're Mercury anyway. Any electronics and sound system is probably due for an update after nearly 9 years so what's left? One big piece of fibreglass! Many fittings can be replaced by other marine suppliers, trim work can be done anywhere, glass repair shops are not hard to find, there's only a very small number of specific parts on a boat that may require the original manufacturers help. Go over the boat with a fine toothed comb and see what you come up with.

That said, Sunsation and AT always get great write ups on OSO for quality and service back up. Doubt you could go wrong on either of them. If I can dump my current boat, a Sunsation 28 is on a very short list for my next boat.

Edit: Speedracer covered it well as I was typing. I type too slow!
