Hey everyone,
looking at a boat with blue scorpions rated at 400hp. Boat has about 300 hours. I understand these engines are pretty much outdated and have been stopped by the factory which worries me about the availability of spares.
My questions are;
1) How many hours do these boats go before the need an overhaul?
2) Overall, how reliable are the motors compared to your stands 350's?
3) Long blocks - are they readily available for these motors?
4) Any week points in the motor?
All help is greatly appreciated and thank you.

The 377 (6.2L) is a virgin bore 350 block with a stroker crank in it. Makes 320 hp between 4800 to 5200 rpm. Once over hauled with a 030 bore it turns into a 383
The motors go as long as the 350 in the same situation and maintenance schedule

If its a blue motor its about 370 hp (crank) and 350 at the prop. Slightly better internals (can't remember the specifics) and slightly bigger cam.
Motor should last the same as any other 350. The only parts I would be concerned about are any proprietary Merc parts (likely fuel pumps, intakes etc.). But there are solutions to that as well.

the 400hp Scorpions were only offered as remans and as bobtails for skiboats.. Great little engines..
