Default Any recommendations for a good crank?

The application is a 1999 454 block with a supercharger running 5 PSI boost. JE forged pistons, forged rods,Crane roller cam, lifters and rockers.

What brand of forged crankshafts have you had success with for the money?

Also, what brand of main & rod bearings have you had success with on this type of application?

Any insight is appreciated. Though I don't need to buy the most expensive thing out there, I would like to know what works well for a reasonable cost.

Thanks In Advance,

Kirk

Default Don't cheap out on the crank

If I were you, and from my experience I would'nt cheap out on the crank. I would go with Lunati.

Pantera24-650HP

Quote from engine builders site:

Most BBC applications can be covered with the three types of cranks shown below.

The Callies 5140 non-welded forgings are far superior to the OEM 1053 forgings that came in LS-6 and LS7- 454" engines in terms of strength, quality and oil distribution. They make an excellent choice for the racer on a budget.

The Crower and Callies 4340 cranks are forged with rod throws 90' apart instead of the conventional way where flat forgings are twisted into shape before cooling which induces stress in the crank. The non-twist process, the 4340 alloy and larger journal radii give these cranks double the cycle life over 5140 forgings. (Narrowed rod and main bearings are required.) The #1 and #4 crank pins are drilled to ease in balancing.

Rank (good to better):
GM1053
Callies 5140 forging
Callies 4340 non-twist forging

Callies
Moldex
Scat
Lunati

I would stay away from the Eagle, especially in a blower application.

Default Bearings

I have been using the Clevite 77 bearings for a while now without any problems. Although I never used them in a blower application.

i am running an eagle 4.25" 4340 non twist crank i got in a balanced kit from my builder. 496cu w/ 250 blowers and have over 150 hours on the set up. no problems. i changed the bearings while the motor was out last time at about 30 hrs and they looked perfect. i am running the clevite 77H series which is required for the radius on the journals. you can get the whole kit from eagle w/ their h beam rods, speedpro pistons and rings and clevite bearings at a good price. the assy i got was balanced also so you have to change the flywheel and balancer.
