Does the job of protecting the property behind it, pumping back sand is less expensive/anguishing then replacing homes/infrastructure. Combating an angry ocean sometimes is a battle of attrition.

Less expensive at who's expense ?
What has always bothered me with the oceanfront is, at times when I want to access the beach then get threatened by an oceanfront homeowner to get off their property... Meanwhile it is my tax dollars that keep filling in their property when it gets washed away. Now mind you, I am never anywhere near their home. I use the 10ft wide public access path and when I get below the high water mark I would move parallel. Thats when they scream about being on "their" property. Needless to say, I tell them if they got a problem call the Police.
This steel wall was a band aid and a quick fix. The homeowners that did get together and paid out of their pocket to put in the large rock wall I applaud them. But now the state still wants to put the steel wall in on their property. And if I heard right, they want it east of the rock wall that was just put in. What sense does that make? If they are going to force the issue, at least put the wall behind the rocks so that the rocks break up the energy of the wave.
Jenkinsons has their issue with having to turn portions of their property over to the state to install a steel wall and 20ft dune on their beach. Most properties behind the boardwalk are below the height of the boardwalk. There is a Lake right behind those houses that is connected to the Manasquan Inlet. There is no wall or dune that will keep those houses from flooding should the sea level rise again like Sandy. They also have the widest beaches over Bay Head Mantoloking & Brick.
