Default Removing paint from gelcoat

Working on a boat that was painted over the white gel coat. There are some spots where the white is visable through the paint and it looks like they didnt sand the gel.

What should I use to remove the paint to get it ready to repaint the whole boat white?

Paint stripper?

Am I looking at sanding this whole thing down?

Thanks

u cannot use automotive/aircraft stripper made to be used on metal
it will melt the fiberglass resin which is just a glue product,,,,,
there is a cheap water based stripper that the hardware sales that works ok
takes a few attemps
best is sanding not to hurt the gelcoat,,,,220 knocks off paint fast
also gelcoat is thick and just want to scuff sand it and not sand it off when painting
as if sand off u have very porous fiberglass to deal with then

I just did a bunch of this but was on the deck of my project however I used a belt sander for the majority and then went back with DA and palm sander with 180. The belt sander hauled xxs but just have to keep it moving and be careful. Saved me a bunch of time though.
Hope this helps.

youll be sanding for days. literally days. go to a autobody store, buy a small hand held razor blade scraper. buy a pack of lots of razor blades, and get to scraping. little learning curve but once you get the hang of it youll blow the old paint off the sides. best way to do it!!!!

Use an air board with 120 grit. With some water.
