Default Texas Outlaw Challenge Shootout Going With Radar Capture In 2016

One of several cool things happening for the top-speed shootout portion of this year's Texas Outlaw Challenge, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...apture-in-2016

I'm sure the organizers will be happy to hear that, because that change was made specifically with people such as you in mind.

Why not use GPS speed from in the boats? The officials could even provide the device and reset for each run that way if you reached a higher speed mid way or towards the end of the course that would count vs just trap speed at the end.

Great question. They're using radar, with GPS in the boats as back-up in a move to "standardize" their shootout format to match those such as the Lake of the Ozarks, GLOC and Desert Storm events. For the same reason, they're shortening their course to a measured mile.

Pardon the shameless self promotion, but we have a comprehensive feature on top speed shootouts coming in our next digital magazine, which will go live March 21. I think (or hope anyway) you'll find it enlightening.
