Hello all, I just purchased a 1993 Thoroughbred, with a 502 it made 560hp 588tq on the dyno, at 5800rpm. The boat has no prop on it right now, any ideas on where to start for a prop? I was thinking maybe a 28 hydro or a 30 bravo?

I have a 1995 21ft superboat with 509,same or close to hp. I run a labbed 28 bravo at the rev limter. 5600. Boat has a -2 imco lower. Boat has seen 92mph. If i can get my hands on a 30 bravo i will try it. I know the motor can spin the 30 with no problems. Hope this helps.

I would think your on the right track but I would try a hydro 29 or the bravo1 30. I have a 260 with a 500efi and I run a hydro 27p 15.5" right around 5100 flirting with 80gps. I also have a labbed b1 30p lefty that I run every once and a while but don't really like. I would let it go for your looking for a prop to start with.
Everyone seams to like the bravo 1 props for everything but outright top speed over the hydros but I really like the full 15.5" diameter hydros more then the bravo1's. My advice would be to try as many props as you can borrow or rent before you commit to buying a bunch of expensive props.

Assuming you're referring to the 26' and not a 22', I'd suggest starting with a stock 26" Bravo given the 5800 rpm peak as a baseline, You'll need another ~100 HP to throw the bigger props you refer to.

sorry yes it is a 26 thoroughbred, I have a 24 hydro I am borrowing to test with and see where I end up I have always hated hydromotive props on every boat I have ever owned, I usually end up with a bravo 1 but I have heard good things about the hydro and these hulls

If you are aiming to spinning it at 5800.....I am guessing maybe a 27 Hydro. Where are you located?

I am in Lakewood NY (near Jamestown) I have a 30 Bravo for safe. It is a left hand and stock. It migyt give you a starting point if you want to try it. No charge we are 1.5 hours from Buffalo. I am thinking it may be too big to spin at 5800

If you talk with Steve or Kenny, they will probably tell you to use a hydro. I think they work better on pad bottom boats. If you can get in touch with Steve, Last I spoke with him , he was doing some of his own props

thanks for the info guys, im going to try and water test it next week and get a base line
