Default XZ drives on a 38 Cigarette TS w/525's.... Good or Bad?????

Guys
Blew an XR last season and I am not going back with them. Some have said to rebuild them with the B1 gear set. We boat LOTO and I just don.t know if they would hold up very long. when the water gets ugly.. What are your thoughts??????

Thanks

I'd rather have XZs than XRs more tooth contact, don't pit out as easy. They are not technically as strong of a gear but when you factory the tooth contact patch out, it's a stronger setup.
Either contact Doug at Master tech marine or John P at the Bravo shop, both very knowledgeable

My xr's hold up just fine on lake mi so I think you'll be fine at loto with whatever gear set you choose. I change oil every 20 hrs on mine. If your really concerned or are thinking about adding power look at the imco scx

Battling the same. Broke a drive on Lake Michigan last year at Boyne Thunder. Can't see putting any money in them, thinking of SCXs to not have to worry and have my day ended early......especially since the season for me is so short.

Boat weight is similiar to yours, maybe a tad heavier, with XRs. Gear oil changed every 15-20 hours with Amsoil Severe Gear.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I went to bravo X gears after breaking XR upper gear. Going to depend on how you drive it. Straight bottom TG's have bravo 1's and don't have above normal issues.

XR's are straight cut gears, because of the cut and surface area of the gear, this set should be stronger. But some of the runs of XR gear sets have been ......"Not so good". like a toss up. I believe drive setup is key when running more then 500HP.

XZ's are helical cut, which is a slightly less strong gear mesh....I had a XZ on a single screw along time ago, and it took some good abuse. XZ's will be faster in the water because of the gears and quieter. Also I never heard of a bad run of these gears, if you can find some on the shelf somewhere, might work out good for you.

All in all, I think it depends alot on who put it together. GOOD LUCK, Its all a crap shoot. I always change my oil 15-20 hours, to help the Bravo Death.
