Default ITS steering cyl leak

I noticed I have a leaking steering cylinder leaking on my ITS transom. I ordered a seal kit. Any advice on removal, replacement and bleeding? Any special tools needed?

Thanks,
Bill

Ok, I have the cylinder off and taken apart. The shaft is dinged up. How it got beat up is beyond me. They are tucked in way out of the way. Regardless, Merc doesn't offer it separately and I am not spending $500 on a whole new cylinder. Any of you have a good source for a hydraulic shaft to match this one. 3/4" diameter, 7 1/2" overall length. Threaded on one end and 3/8" fine thread hole in the other end.
