I guess all those years of screwing people on Bravos has really paid off!

Great news for Fond du Lac....because that town is _nothing_ without Mother Merc.

I guess that will make up for the spontaneous retreat of Mercruiser from Stillwater, Oklahoma in 2009 with a loss of 1700 jobs total and an empty 750,000 S.F. plant.

Thought the same thing when I heard about this.

Why spend money to add to a facility when you already have one sitting empty that could be used? What about the jobs that were dropped in Stillwater that could be reinstated?

I'm sure someone will have a logical reason that I'm not smart enough to figure out.

If memory serves (and based on this brief TradeOnly article, http://www.tradeonlytoday.com/2011/1...-to-shut-down/ it does, a dispute about union concessions was a factor in the Stillwater pllant closure. Not assigning blame or making any judgement or taking sides, simply adding what appears to be a forgotten data point.

The union deal was part of the issue. The deal did let the community wondering what happened, though. Things went from "yes we are here for the long hall" to "gone in a NY minute".

Forgotten data point. The closed down Stillwater plant was non-union. The Fon Du Lac plant was / is the union plant. Wisconsin gave concessions to stay open.
