Default I think Im being ROBBED on Service. BUP or anyone: any advice??

Ok real quick I have a 2005 powerquest 260 with a 496 mag B1. I developed a small water leak coming from my Cool fuel module part # M,8m0047215. Long story short I dropped the boat off to a local merc dealer and they are trying to charge me $1,732.50 in labor and $1,317.25 for the new module and some fittings. For a total of $3,049.75!!!!! This seems crazy to me. Does anyone have experience with this repair? How many hours does it take? They charge $99 a hour so doing the math it comes out to them charging me for 17.5 hours for the repair. This is my MAIN concern. > I picked the boat up yesterday and gave them $2000 cash towards the bill. I was told I could leave a credit card number and speak with the owner prior to paying the rest of the bill. Well I get the boat in the water and as soon as I lift the engine hatch and look down, I see my brand new fuel module is still leaking water from the same damn spot! Also I ask them to do some other small repairs that totaled $800 including fixing my pitot tube so my speedo worked. The speedo worked for about 5 mins then that fail also. Any info on this this repair will help. Also advice with dealing with the fact the repair is still leaking!!!!!!! I have a phone call to make to the owner in a couple hours.

You got f*cked. Time to learn to work on your own boat. I feel bad for you.

Yes, you got robbed. It's certainly not a cheap repair, but that's crazy.

This is what sucks about marina's. I had my marina pull my engine in 2011 and they tried to charge me $1000. They pulled the boat in at 1:00 and had it out at 3:00, I actually took pictures and flipped out, they knocked a lot off the bill.

At first glace I thought your post said you were being robbed by me. Inwhich that would never be the case so I want to make that clear as clean glass. Anyways lets make the point of the fact anyone in the world can shop for the parts cheaper on the net or China or Amazon . I for one will not buy this way nor will install parts from any unknown sources that a customer wants to bring in -That would be like an engine builder building an engine to be the baddest around but buys on ebay recondition heads to save money. A Merc dealer is going to buy thru Merc so there is a warranty available and yes it does come at a cost. Also you want the latest version of whatever part you are ordering /buying. There is always a reason for that . In this case the cool fuel has changed design 5 times especially the draining portion of it for the better.

Why was your cool fuel leaking anyways ? Sometimes the leaks can be fixed unless it was a missed winterization and it cracked especially internally. Common problem

Your cool fuel retails for $1131. The labor portion for your app I can not answer that as did your engine and interior come out to install the new cool fuel ?

A straight easy shot and clean remove and replace should have been around 2 to no more than 3 hours.

The ;last one I just did was 6 hours because I had a chit load of interior to remove and reinstall. 600 bucks in labor. Last year I had to pull the starboard engine to get to it (twin app) . Had to pull port engine exhaust (inner side) so that I could even pull the starboard engine. that was 1200 to 1300 in labor. With that said how hard is yours to remove and reinstall ?

After the install of the Gen III cool fuel system you have to prime the fuel system and test run plus it would be very wise to check fuel pressures. I do because I want to make sure we do not have problems from the new install or new parts nor want an engine to run lean. That can be an extra labor charge of an hour or 2 or even 3 hours on top of depending on how the shop charges. Especially a lake test and fuel pressure tests and checking for leaks and ramp fees.

Did they give you an estimate for the repair before they started?

the price for the cool fuel and most likely they had to order the correct BIB for the install. Also they is some orings and quad ring to order if they were to install all of that properly so with that said 1300 + dollars is very inline for the costs, all brand new currently thur MERC.

The LABOR I have no idea of your set up nor boat nor engine compartment nor interior all that plays a huge role in the labor portion

What does your bill say about the labor portion as to how they broke that down in detail per hour charges. (labor should be be broken down described)

back in my SeaRay days we had a cool fuel on a 250SLX (496 boat) need replaced. If I remember right, they had to tear most of the interior out and still had major issues with getting it swapped. Took him all of 2 days. Your size boat sounds like it could have been the same story.
