I think that head might work on a early engine. I told my friend about it I think it might be for a fishing boat cruiser. Thanks

Jim Valako reworked two sets of the Dart 308 Cast Iron heads for us. With 500 CI these heads supported 800 HP with 500 CI. Best I remember, the torque was 650-700 lbs from 4500-6000 RPM. I give more credit to Jim V than to the castings.

I didn't do the math, but should add about 1 point in compression. I would check. Would make motors stronger if they are the low hp 454's with the 8:1 or less compression. See note below, as they will seal / bolt on the older bbc's.

CH454C Chevrolet 454 7.4 1996-2000
Universal Replaces casting number 12560241, 10141279
246cc Intake Runner –
100cc Combustion Chamber /
Vortec Chamber (.370/.3716 valve id)
Direct replacement for 1996- 2000 / When installing on 1996 and earlier models, must use Bolt Down Rocker Arms and Head Gasket by Felpro # 1017 or equivalent

They make a direct replacement 502 Iron head. I just had them done up on my motor, the 320's.

Corrected my original post said Merlin heads but my head project started using the Dart 308 Iron Eagles. Jim's intake ports ended a about 320. He also did a lot of work on the exhaust ports. We did use the World Merlin(?) intakes as they have the brass liners at the water intake. The intake manifolds were reworked to match Jim's intake ports.
