Default Bravo U-Joints - Older Drive

Guys, my drive was making some rattling noises, and I narrowed down the issue to the u-joints. I'm pretty sure I can get these at a local auto parts shop, but having trouble searching. I had the drive off and u-joints removed in about 45 minutes so I'm ready to put her back together today if I can find the parts.

Casting number is L15N1-1F and they use c-clips (not the newer snap rings... older drive).

Can anyone help real quick? Thanks in advance!

If an auto parts store had them that would be news to me.

older U joints were greaseable with the zerk dead middle of the U joint. Sierra has them as I still can order currently being a dealer. Spicer sells them but the zerk is not located in the middle of the U joint, its located inbetween the joints.. I would order the Spicer match NON greasable U joints.

And to prevent all the neg feedback about non greasable U Joints - lets see Mercruiser and Volvo has used them exclusively for the past 10 to 20 years back without problems. And the Auto / truck side has used them for a longtime as well.. Plus very few people ever pull the drive and grease U joints so why bother with them especially for boats stored on the water.

Auto parts store do have them. They are stock u joints on dodge cars. I had fleet pride match them up for me. Cost me $75 installed and all. Been running them 2 years no issues.

I went to Pep Boys and NAPA. Both had them, but the Pep Boys pieces were cheap and definitely light-duty, Chinese junk. Probably doesn't matter that much in the boat, but I felt more comfortable getting a heavy-duty u-joint (considering that we're making 600+ ft lbs of torque pretty much all the time), and went with a NAPA Super Strength, P/N UJ246, $28. The zerk fitting is the micro pin style that requires an adapter for your grease gun, and it's lubed through the cap (the fitting sticks out about a millimeter or so). This u-joint is supposed to be very strong. They went in without a hitch.

The part is spec'd to a '68 Chrysler full-size (Newport with a 383, the New Yorker came only with the 440 and uses the larger u-joint that will not fit). A Moog 315G is the cross-reference, and is the "small" u-joint used on Mopar applications that support regular duty applications.

Hope this helps for someone else in the future.

I knew it was a Mopar joint. I could not remember if it was the large or small. I got non-greaseable DANA U Joints.

Thanks for the cross references, Tom.

FYI @ all... these also fit the Alpha I Gen II (probably 91-97). That's what I have. Original P/N is the same as Tom's and is a Rockwell part.

From what I've read, the NAPA and Moog are both made by Federal Mogul. The Moog 246 should be the exact same as the NAPA UJ246. Advance Auto has the Moog for $24 and I've never bought anything at AA without a 20-30% off coupon. I'd personally prefer a Spicer U Joint but I can't find those locally and need to install mine tomorrow.

Moog has really disappointed me lately and many say the quality has gone down recently. I agree. I replaced all the front suspension components on my truck with top of the line Moog and had to replace them after only 2 years. If they fail again or if these U joints fail I'll never buy Moog again.

Here's what Rock Auto has that will also fit...

It's a '91'or '92. I'd have to pull the drive to verify via the casting number. It still uses the o-ring style drain plugs.
