Default New Transient Docks At Navy Pier

I just saw this on my FB feed this morning. Another docking option in Chicago on Lake Michigan at navy Pier. They have not announced prices yet...I'm, guessing it's going to be upwards of $40 per hour.

This is a LOOOOONG overdue good idea. I'm betting that dock will be packed all the time. Between this and the new dockage by the Riverwalk...we FINALLY have options in the City.

Its about freakin time! But that's still not enough space...if they had any brains they would have done this on the opposite side of the pier that faces the water treatment plant where they keep the seadogs that aren't being used....way more dockage space there

Ya, 200ft is not much but it's better than nothing I suppose. There was some talk of adding a 360 degree dock around that little rectangular island thing that you can see on the south end of the photo, they had plans to build a pedestrian bridge out to it so you could dock and walk. Not sure why that idea got tossed, it would have offered over 1600 feet of usable dock as that island is 800ft in length and would have allowed docking on both sides and two ends.

That would have been a hell of a better idea!!! at least you would have some peace of mind that hopefully no one other then other boat owners would be anywhere near your boat when left alone at the docks....here you are going to have ALL the people of Navy Pier eyeballing the rides...don't get me wrong i like showing off my toys when i have a good eye on them and am fairly close by....on the other side of the pier by the water plant side at least there is very minimal foot traffic as well...

Rather than starting a new thread I figured I would just post here since it's somewhat related. Any of you guys headed out to Navy Pier in 2 weeks to watch the Louis Vuitton America's Cup race? Also do any of you guys know the particulars on the race course? It looks like its going to cut straight south from navy Pier towards the Planetarium inside the break wall, will they be allowing access to and from the river that weekend? I kinda doubt those uptight sailboat guys are going to want power boats cutting across the course but there is only one small lane to the lock and onto the river? I called the Chicago harbor but they could not tell me anything.
