on a 2008 legacy, battery switches are on, key on panel is on, nothing on the little dc voltmeter screen on the panel, indicator lights on panel switches light up when you turn something on but nothing works. So there is power, but are batts too dead to do anything then or am I missing something?
If batts too low, how to get the hatch up?

You should have an outlet to plug in 120 to the system or if you only have the big shore power outlet than get an adapter to go from regular extension cord to the shore power outlet, plug into the power than turn on the battery charger. Charge them up for awhile than you should be able to get the hatch up and acess the batteries to inspect.

i dont know if you got the problem figured out, but i had the exact problem and charging the batteries would not open the hatch still. i took my automotive charger and hooked the ground side to the terminals under rear bench and positive side to the battery switch in the port side gunnels to get the hatch open. Found the on board charger in fault because batteries were shot and would not take a charge. Put 2 new batteries in and i was good to go
