Default Drive wouldnt lower or raise

Boated all day sunday no issues. Put the boat on the trailer and one the way up the ramp someone hollars the outdrive is down. I couldnt get it to come up. Messed with it for 20minutes at the ramp and nothing. Luckily i was able to limp it to a buddies house 1/4 mile away. Messed with it for another hour and nothing. Took the switch apart and jumped the terminals....nothing. Jumped from the battery to the blue wire on the motor....nothing. No click no sounds nada. Finally the buddy gets home (was on the lake with us) and the phucker clicks and then starts working fine. Get the outdrive up and tow home. Put her in garage turn on the a/c and go to check it out yesterday and cant get it to act up again. Any ideas?

pump motor. Have a buddy hold the switch in the raise position while you rap on the motor housing with a hammer. (just like you would with a starter motor in a car when the starter is on its way out) I had that problem a few years back and that's how I discovered it was the motor and not electrical.

Check all the connections. But if its not broke kind of hard to fix.

Had something similar happen to me a couple years ago. After limping back to the pier because my port drive would not lower. Had it back on the trailer, Had the girl hold down on the "drive" switch while I held in the "breaker" and it reset. No issues since. But I agree with Apache. Check for corrosion on all the connections.

Thanks everyone ill check all this out. Son left the cabin lights on yesterday so batteries are now dead. Charging now but the trim motor seems to be working fine still. Frustrating!

I would check the ground wire to pump, especially if it is the offshore type bracket that slides up to remove from transom bracket. Next time you hotwire the blue or green wires at motor to the battery + also have a ground from battery to see if adding ground changes everything.

Had it happen a couple weeks ago, Sea Tow had me loosen one of the lines a little going into the trim pump with engine off until a little fluid comes out, start engine and tighten the nut. Worked like a charm ! gotta luv Sea Tow, lever leave home without it !

Think i found the problem. It quit working again. Jumped the terminals on the switch and nothing. Jumped the blue wire at motor and it worked. Then i pulled the plug from the motor for my port side trim tab and plugged it in to the trim motor and the outdrive moves up and down with the trim tab switch. So back to the trim switch i go. Looked like when i pulled the throttle assembly apart over the winter to repaint it i must have pinched a wire. I untied all the wires and now its working fine. I havnt pinpointed the exact wire but im on the right track i think. Getting up at 4:45 am sucks balls or else i would have kept going. Hopefully tomorrow i have it whipped.
