Default Gps for OPA and SBI

What's the common unit everyone is running? Can we use the same gps for OPA and SBI? We rented at lake race and need to make a purchase before our next race. What's everyone's opinion? Cost is a factor. Don't need the top of the line. Just a reliable unit to be dependable and user friendly.

You looked great at the lake race
In our experience.........
You can have the most sophisticated , expensive GPS/Data Logger,,,,neither organization will accept the data it produces, or understand the software.

They are both using historic GPS/Data Loggers that might predate the "slide ruler" for trigonometric calculations

Open your wallet for 2 outdated GPS/Data Loggers machines or race one organization.

So what you are saying is someone who wants to race in one of OPA's bracket classes would be better served by buying a multi thousand dollar data logging system to record speed than to buy the current Racelogic $500 (approx) system they implemented for 2016?

thank you doc. It was my first time driving the boat. I'm ready to put her up to a challenge in some rough water. We would love to race one series but our problem is location. Andy lives in Kansas and I'm in Oklahoma. Only able to make 2-3 races a year so have to pick and choose what we can make it to. We rented GPS at Lake Race and I think it only showed us 2 laps. Didn't even record all 8 so we kind of got the shaft. I think the top 3 boats all broke out. It may have cost us the race. Oh and I'm ready to drive that sv 29 whenever you are. Lol

The GPS you have to buy will turn out to be one of your least expensive items. Offshore racing isn't cheap for any organization or class.

I'm not worried about the cost, no racing is cheap but some of these classes are pretty affordable. I have been running a drag radial car for the last few years and this will be a way cheaper endeavor.
