Light change...

This sounds simple but it's not. I've got a '98 so I'm sure a lot of folks on this board have the same bow light fixture. I removed the 2 screws in the flat part of the chrome base. It doesn't budge. I slip a knife between the fixture and the boat deck to cut the silicone, still doesn't budge. I took out the forward bulkhead below and saw that the light, pop-up cleats and horn are "potted" in with about 45 lbs. of white silicone.
Has anyone else changed the bulb from the top? Will I need to surgically remove this fixture and extricate the wires running up through the stalagtite of goo. Say it ain't so.

Gottahaveit,
That's the light fixture that I have on my Outlaw. Thanks for posting that...I know that if I had blown the light bulb, I probably would have started by unscrewing the screws. You saved me work in the future!

Chris:
Thanks for the help. Unfortunatly, my light is different. The chrome "cap" is more rectangular without any screws in it at all. The front half of the base plate is chrome and has2 screws in it. But that seems to have nothing to do with the removal if the top and lens. The base does appear to be 2 pieces as I was able to pry the 2 bottom halves approx. 1/16 apart. Can't get it off the boat though.
I will try calling some dealers and see if they can help.
