Looking for a rough cost on what it would cost me to have my boat transported from Northern IL to Lake Havasu and back next year for Desert Storm. I have a 38 Fever on a Myco and not sure if it is worth transporting my self or not so weighing it out.

Esal, I just made that trip from Detroit and back to buy a boat out there. Went empty and came back with the boat (1979 24' Sea Ray flybridge with twin 470's about 5000 lbs). My truck is a 1996 Chevy 1 ton 2wd dually 6.5 turbo diesel 4 speed auto. I will give you this advice. I got quotes to haul the boat back with the lowest being $1400. I got 14 mpg on the way out and 9 back. Diesel was about $2.30/ gallon. Towing your own boat out there and back depends on what kind of truck you have. If it is anything less than a newer Chevy/Ford/Dodge diesel, I would not. The elevation changes from 1000 ft to 4000 ft. My truck struggled just to get the boat out of lake Havasu to the freeway, but mainly because my truck is not intercooled. I towed my Scarab from Detroit out to Lake Michigan last year and the truck did fine but when towing the Sea Ray the grades of the mountains are what almost killed me.
Also It took 2 days to get there and should have taken 2 to get back (actually took me 4 days with all the break downs I had), so you have 4 days spent in the truck just driving. I was beat after doing it.

I've hauled to/from Tx for July 4th week using a dodge diesel, 115* heat and only one bearing blow out. As long as all your maint is up-to-date and you have a few spare tires/bearings you should be good. I wouldn't hesitate on doing it again. Pm me if ya have any specific questions.

Probably $2-2.50 a mile for a professional transporter

We transport boats usually for $1.00-$1.50 per mile if on a trailer. What are the dimensions for your boat on the trailer (weight, height, width, length)? This would be going from Illinois to Lake Havasu and then back to Illinois?

I don't see you having proper cargo insurance and MC number for 1.00 per mile. I have to pay 2.00 per mile for a professional to do the job.

Not sure what you're looking at but I have $150,000 cargo insurance and $1m in liability. MC # is active and in good standing. MC # 968561. There happens to be another company based out of Texas named BA's Transport as well which in no way is related to us. We're based out of South Carolina.

AT $1/mile, how do you Motel cover room's, fuel, insurance etc? Then remember if they want to bring the boat back after the event, that means you will have to stay there during the time of the event?

My only suggestion is don't promise something you can't really do.

$2-3/mile is realistic depending on the agreement for hotel rooms etc.

We never promise something that we can't do and don't have any problems paying our insurance, fuel, etc. We haven't had any problems so far charging $1-$1.50 per mile.
