Hi all!!! Purchased my first boat. It's a 2001 Baja H2X. Here's my question. A Baja outlaw came up near me and I assumed wanted to go fast. I outran him. Saw him at a dock later. He said I only outran him because I have a shallow hull. What does he mean? What's a shallow hull?

the H2X is something like a 20* bottom, where an Outlaw is 24*

Thank you. Why would the dead rise be a factor in speed? I'm thinking it affects the way it handles chop and waves. I better do some reading about boat things. Lovin it so far.

Hull degree aside, often times in grudge racing, if you're the winner, the other guy has a reason why he, woulda, coulda. And shoulda won, but didn't.

This goes for anything with an engine. Ha!

No idea. I didn't know that. Lol. Maybe he gave into the bikini pressure. He had more half naked chics than I did. I had one. My wife. So that automatically doesn't count.

You and your wife are enjoying your new boat, you've beaten some guy who picked on a faster boat. Isn't that all that matters? Lol. I'm sure you'll beat a few more but remember, there's always someone faster out there.....

As mentioned already, a shallow deadrise is usually quicker than a similar deeper V but there is a trade off, maybe difference in the rough water handling. Baja sold a lot of h2x hulls with many happy customers, for good reason, congrats on the ride. Now you're into boating, keep active on here, oso is a great resource for all things boating. I have learned a lot here in a couple of years and it's all interesting stuff. Welcome!
