Audio warning system

So I searched the threads but have not found an answer. I have 89 Formula that initially had a 7.4l 454. I replaced the 7.4 with a 1998 502MPI. The warning system for the old engine (7.4l) would sound when the ignition switch was turned on and would remain on until the engine was running. My understanding is that with the 502mpi the audio warning should beep twice when ignition switch is turned on and then only come on again if there is an issue (Low drive lube, low oil pressure, high temp). What I am experiencing now is that when I turn the ignition on I hear a short steady beep, like 3 seconds, it comes on again while cranking the engine and then once started will shut off.
My 502 has a MEFI1...so I should here the two beeps. I think...at least based on Mercruiser documentation.
Any thoughts on this? Thanks

Ok so reading through Mercruiser documentation again, what it says is that there is a beep for 2 seconds when key turned on. Does not say there are w beeps. No where in the documentation does it say there are 2 beeps for any engine configuration.
