Recently, sold my boat, and interested in a 292 Fastech for my next one. Curious to know if anyone has experience towing a 292 or similar size boat with an F150 crewcab 4x4 ecoboost?

I towed my 30' Velocity with my 2012 FX4 EcoBoost. Did the job well, but I believe the 292 is a little heavier than my Velocity. My Ford also had the 3.73 rear which definitely helped. Still haven't weighed the boat/trailer, but I think I'm around 9000-9500 lbs.

I have about 2000 miles towing about 7500 50/50 behind 3:53 truck and a 3:73 truck.

I tow through the scorching desert uphill everywhere.

The 3:73 truck threw that boat around like dice. The 3:53 truck was a gear or 2 lower on every hill.

No 1/2 ton tows better than the ecoboost 3.5/373 - full stop

I always figure that the ability to pull the weight is good, but the critical factor is often the ability to stop the weight.

Truck stopped really well - a set of SS lines would take it up one notch and thats relatively easy and cheap to do.

Its a good thing too because about the only thing to complain about is that you get no engine brake (oh it tries) and on a big downhill push you'll be using the brakes.

- and the stereo woofer in that model was bolted to the floor underneath the 60/40 rendering the floor hobbled for large internal loads.

Pulled my Sunsation 32 Dominator great...and I had the 3.73 gears. The brakes are pretty good but you definitely want to make sure you have a good set of trailer brakes to be certain.

A 292 Fastech will weigh in at 10K lbs. on the trailer with fuel, water and stuff. IMO, this is too much weight for a 1/2 ton from any manufacturer. You are better off with a 3/4 ton and EOH brakes are highly recommended.


I tow my 292 with a Denali HD diesel with no issues.

I pulled a 35 Fountain with mine. Relatively easy roads. Towed it very well overall.
