Default Re-powering 33 outlaw

So to try and make a long story short I have a 1998 33 outlaw I bought in April or so with the intentions of putting a couple 502's in it and running it. Well I ran out of time and wanted to be on the water this summer and knew that wasn't going to be a possibility with the outlaw.

So like an idoit I bought another boat this one is a 1989 Baja 28 sport. The boat has twin 454's 330hp motors.

Now I've been trying to decide if it would be worth it to pull those two motors out over the winter rebuild them get some more horsepower out of them with some upgrades and put them in the outlaw in early spring. My brother will be doing all the work on the motors besides cleaning them up or if I was to bore them over any I'd have to send them out so the price to build them wont be crazy just the parts, but I've been doing a little bit of research and from what I've found is its really hard to get any serious power out of the 330hp 454's so if this is true it would be pretty much pointless to put those motors in the outlaw right?

The other option is just sell the 28' and buy a pair of drop in motors which I know would be best but then you are always guessing if they actually run or not.

(probably should just sell both and walk away from both of them but what's the fun in that)

Thanks in advance.

I would sell the boat and get some drop in 502s or hp 500s. I have the 454 mags and they would be a good choice too, but you can probably find some 502s just as easy and a lil more HP! (Mine runs 65 light with 4 blades)

They had a guy with 330s and he said it ran good, but 60-62 tops. Depending what your goal is, you could put the mpis in, but then that other boat is worthless without power. (Building up 330s with cast internals is not the best route to take either)

I say speed isn't a big deal at this point but I'm sure after using it a week or two I'd be wanting to go faster lol

that's what I had read was the cast internals with the 330hp was a bad idea just wanted to make sure that was the correct information.

thanks for the input!

Your best bet is to either buy a different boat (recommended), or if you're as hardheaded as the rest of us sell those as complete running units and apply those dimes towards the dollars of new power. Do you even like the boat otherwise?

I like the outlaw and would like to see it on the water someday but I wouldn't be heart broken if it sold.

The 28' sport I don't hate but I'm not in love with it either wouldn't hurt my feelings to watch it go down the road but unfortunately in good ole New York state it'll be a couple months before I get the title.

the 330's are two bolt and cast pistions I dont think you will be happy unless you get at least some where around 500 hp for the 33

Enjoy the 28 for what it is over the summer then sell it and put new power in the outlaw over the winter.

Ill also say, 502 mpi's (415 hp fuel injected) at min. to enjoy the boat. Next I would have to agree 500 EFI's would be my next choice. I'm just not sure on the exhaust system that would be needed for the 500 efi's. If headers are required so you don't suck in water tho, that's another 10K bill.

Both are turn key engines, with easy maintenance schedule (oil changes, filters and grease)
