Default Motor Quits after 45min

A friend has a 351 ford, after a 45min. cruise the engine quits. He has to wait 45min then it will restart. We have checked the fuel and compression, he has not checked spark. Has anyone had an experience with this type of problems ? I would rather not use the shotgun approach. I am leaning towards the coil ? Thanks

You really need to check for spark or ignition trouble next time it dies. If it cranks over it is either no fuel or spark. Coils can quit and start working when they cool off. Is this a carb motor or EFI? Need more info or it is pretty much shooting in the dark.

It could be a fuel problem...perhaps a vapor lock? Possibly clogged fuel filter? Not sure about the Ford in Marine applications and the coil....hard to say there!?

I would check coil, condensor, pick up coil in dist, also for vapor lock, but , vapor lock would present more clues then just quiting I would think.

I had a friend that had the same problem several years ago. He had a twin engine application, the one engine kept quiting on him. He'd go out and after about 30-45 minutes the one engine would quit. Come to find out it was the coil---he replaced it---no problems.

I had the same problem a few years ago and it was the pickup coil in the dist. I have had coils do that same thing in my race days. I had vapor lock problems last year and that usually shows up after you stop for a little while and the motor gets the heat soak thing going.....it gets hot, vapor locks and won't start.
Check for spark. Just carry a spare spark plug to test with, that makes it really easy. More info needed!
